Centre de Jouy-en-Josas, (received 20 September 1988, accepted 15 November 1988) Summary — A seventh allele of the caprine a ,--asein locus, called !X s , was observed in D S1-Cn French Alpine and Saanen breeds. Its frequency in a large herd (AM 98) was 0.025. Like !X -, B S1-Cn F and !X S1-Cn !X , this allele is associated with a decreased synthesis rate, its approximate o S1-Cn mean contribution being 0.6 - 0.8 g/I, very close to that of !X . F S1-Cn goat -
